“AND SAUL CAST THE JAVELIN; FOR HE SAID, I WILL SMIITE DAVID EVEN TO THE WALL WITH IT. AND DAVID AVOIDED OUT OF HIS PRESENCE TWICE.” – 1 Samuel 18:11.
This is the story of our lives! Dodging spears and daggers that are thrown at us!! Everybody knows what to do when a spear is thrown at them. Just pull it back out of the wall and throw it back at the person who threw it at you. But David opted not to. Why?? Because David knew that Saul not only hated him but he also loved him. Strange sort of a fellow this Saul was! He loved David and also hated him at the same time. Saul’s schizophrenic / split- personality cast David into a dilemma. We’ve all come across such people; people who love us one moment and hate us the next! I’ve had people tell me ” I think, next to God, you are the one whom I love the most”, “I will be eternally grateful to you for all what you’ve done for me”. But sadly, their actions belie their words! Their actions fail to corroborate with their good intensions. David ran away from Saul back to his harp and his sling. He took his harp and sang away his blues; he took his sling and slung away those thoughts of wanting to avenge himself. Then destiny called! From wilderness to battlefield he went – to slay giants and fight the battles of God! Are you in hiding from Sauls who want to slay you? From those who are consumed by jealousy that turns their love into hatred? Take heart! Don’t pull that spear back out of the wall and try to avenge yourself. Run to your wilderness and play your harp and sharpen your skills with your sling and a few stones. One day soon God’s going to call you and send you on a mission that’ll change your world. You are not called to slay Sauls. You are called for greater things. Hang in there!
God bless you. – Pastor Dayalan Sanders.
