“THE BEAUTY OF ISRAEL (Singapore) IS SLAIN UPON YOUR HIGH PLACES: HOW ARE THE MIGHTY FALLEN! tell it not in the cities, publish it not in the streets…..” – 2 Sam. 1:17.
Six Christian church leaders in Singapore who spent $36 million on a bid to turn their Pastor, Kong Hee’s, glamourous wife into a global pop star were convicted yesterday of fraud and criminal breach of trust, and could face long prison terms. To the best of my knowledge, the long brewing legal battle was mired in controversy right from the start. I’ve heard arguments for and against the charismatic Pastor who led the famous ‘City Harvesy Church’ which attracted thousands of worshipers to its Mega Auditorium Sunday after Sunday. Since the day charges were leveled against the Pastor, the church engaged the services of the finest minds in the legal profession, and a ‘dream Team’ of prayer warriors or intercessors that money could buy, to mount a defence against the prosecution. Those who were for the Pastor argued that it was a state sponsored conspiracy to disgrace and discredit the Pastor, and shame all christian ministries. Those from the opposing camp said the charges were just and well-founded, and his wife was the cause of his downfall.
Whatever the case maybe, we of the Christian community, need to take a leaf from the Life of King David. When David heard of the ignominious death of King Saul, he wept! He wailed and lamented the shame that had befallen on one of God’s very own! As Christians it is incumbent upon each and every one of us to get down on our knees and pray for Pastor Kong Hee and his ministry. As fellow servants it is our bounden duty to weep with those who weep, and suffer with those who suffer. If we think with our hearts, I need not say anything more!
God bless you,
Pastor Dayalan Sanders.
